Is it normal that my sister felt bad about this but not

so a few months ago we had rats in our home and we killed most of them but then there was one left and it was smaller than the other ones we got it in a box and I told my sister to kill it but she said no because it was a baby and that she would feel bad about killing a baby rat but she had an abortion and was ok with doing it even though a rat is not worth more than a fetus

Is It Normal?

  • Because there are many who don't believe that a foetus (before a certain stage of development) is a baby, but a foetus, and therefore an abortion before that stage is, to them, an option.

    • That doesn't mean its worth less than a disgusting rat

      • But it's alive an out of the womb. That makes a difference to some.

      • Disgusting? Well that's subjective. I didn't see it, but I'm inclined to guess this rat was actually fairly cute.

  • Maybe your sister chose to have an abortion when she found out she wasn't giving birth to a baby rat? I dunno

  • Reading this just makes me so sad. Just because a fetus is dependent on it's mother doesn't make him/her any less alive. The fact that your sister feels bad about killing a mouse but not her own child makes me sick to my stomach.

  • Boy did that escalate. lol, similar question son, is it easier to kill people in war from the battle field, or 10,000 feet above the air to drop a bomb, which is pressed by a button?

  • After 28 months if the baby rat finds a girlfriend or boyfriend the house will get more rats

  • Personally I try to respect life and I don't like hurting or killing anything, even a plant or a tree.

When a kid once we found a rat on our property. Rather than killing it my brother and I made it our pet.

I think needlessly killing something or hurting something is a sign of lacking intelligence and empathy/sympathy.

On some level it's a lack of respecting something else because you're not intelligent enough to know better -just because something is different from yourself or what you value doesn't mean it's life is worthless or shouldn't valued and respected.
