Is it normal that my periods are really long and heavy?

I've had my period for about a year and a half but for the past several cycles they've been lasting 7+ days and have seemed really really heavy. Plus between periods I get gross, white discharge with a strong odor and I'm afraid others can smell it. It also itches and burns sometimes. What gives?

Is It Normal?

  • Go see a gyno. You probably have an infection. But the heavy periods are normal. Your body is still adjusting itself. Birth control pills help with it.

    • If I don't have a gyno, can I just see my primary physician?

  • Talk to your GP. Sounds like thrush. An going on the pill helped me with my period. I'm also on a pill that I can skip my period so ask about that aswel.

  • Someone suggested using talc powder don't do it it could make it worse you have vag problems the first sign of an infection is smelly vaginal discharge and itching you've listed all the symptoms of a vaginal infection there's many different types and texture of cervical mucus but its not suppose to smell nasty go see your doctor ASAP

  • You're hormooooones.
Go to a gyno. I started going when I was 13 because of similar problems. They don't make you feel unconfortable. They see young girls all the time.
Anyway: long story short, I've been on birth control ever since and there are no more long heavy periods that last 17 days. Drugs are great.
    Get a gyno!
