Often what happens is you find out through friends or by a little research and then your parents try to tell you shit you already know which makes it all the more awkward.

Have you had health class in school? My 5th grade class watched a film about puberty, and I got sex ed in 6th grade.

I found out everything firsthand at age 6.

I asked my dad when I was 7. He said he'd tell me when I was double my age. Which would have been great had I not developed in interest in girls aged eight, was doing bad things to myself at 11, and hit adolescence a year later.

To be honest, though, I'm glad I didn't get "the talk". I don't think either of us would have ever recovered.

The Talk is horrendous, be happy you missed it. I still get it now and I'm 20. And my mother wonders why I love living away so much

Some parents are too embarrassed to talk about it

  • Mine never told me either, these things were always sort of a taboo topic; I learned about it from some old medical books and one very uncomfortable conversation with my grandfather (that was pretty much the closest thing to "the talk").

They're not supposed to tell you you're supposed to find out on your own.

I went through puberty when I was 5. And went trough menopause when I was 8. I got "the talk" when I was 17. And I'm now 19. Go figure..

I don't remember getting 'the talk' as such. I think I first found out about things when my older brother had sex ed at school and brought home some hand-outs he'd been given and talked about with our parents. I do remember excitedly passing all this newly-acquired knowledge on to my best friend. She thought it was absolutely disgusting and that I was making it up. So I asked her to ask her parents about it, which she did and they denied everything!!!
My mom once told me that that all her mother had done in this regard, was to leave a dirty magazine on her bedside table. It looks like times haven't changed much, then.

I never got the talk either, everything I learned was either from in school or just through looking at stuff online. As for girl perves I believe they do exist, they just aren't as vocal about it as guys.

I think we are all into something so we should all be pervs...

I never got the awkward sex talk. Which is good, because I have a certain case of OCD. And I learn it in school, anyways. Doesn't mean we're not educated about puberty or sex. And sex doesn't matter when it comes to perversion. You can be perverted and be a guy or a girl. Thinking all girls are little virginal flowers in a clean meadow is so not true, lol.

I was never told about it either. It's really just something you come to find out.

  • I never got a talk per se but I learned from sex ed in school and from friends. As for girl pervs... well to answer the question, yes girls can have naughty thoughts and desires just as much as guys can.

I would have been hugely helped out by "the talk". As it is, every thing is currently very awkward, with neither of us knowing where the boundary lies between us. I think it says quite a lot about sexual openness in my family that if I had a question about sex, I'd go to IIN rather than talk to a parent.
