Is it normal that my mum loves the dog more than me?

My mum loves the dog more than me. She takes the dog out, and when she growls at my friends, she defends my friends and scolds the dog. Then when she growls at me (food aggression, it's a new puppy) she tells me it's my fault and I should leave her alone.

OF COURSE ITS NORMAL AND IF YOU'D fetch the morning paper or roll over and play dead you might get scratched behind the ear too.

She may love you more but it's possible she appreciate the dog more currently as it's still a puppy, that mean he's probably a more lovely creature than you at the moment and make her feel happier just by the sight of him. It's all about what we get from others (physically or mentally/emotionally) that makes us how we treat them.

Animals are generally more lovable than humans. So there's that.

My mom was like this. If I tried to pet the dog and it bit me she'd yell at me.

She might just be feeling overprotective, especially since it's just a baby. Friends aren't at the house as often as you, so she might give them a little more leeway, knowing that once they're out of the house it's not longer a concern. I've seen that kind of behavior both in people who have had a baby and for excited new pet parents.

I'd say give her a week or two and if she's still being so anal about it, then start up a conversation and ask why she seems to single you out for that kind of treatment
