As much as I'd like to believe this is a troll or you're under-stating your mother's mental abilities for comic effect, I know there are a lot of people like her. There's obviously a market for all the crap she consumes in her magazines, TV and websites.
I can fully understand your exasperation, but I really don't think there's much you can do about people like her. If someone is willfully stupid, the best you can to is ignore them and try to minimize their effect on your life.
My mother wasn't all that smart, and she had some weird ideas of her own. I left home when I was 16, moved to the other side of the world when I was 22, and never went back. My younger siblings had to deal with her foolishness, the worst of which was an obsession with a series of multi-level marketing schemes. The next one was always going to make her a fortune, but of course she ended up having to sell the family home and move in with one of my sisters.
It sounds like your mother has a very narrow life. I suppose the only thing you can be grateful for is that you're able to see that because your horizons are wider.
On a minor point, I've lived in an Italian town, and there weren't many centenarians around. There were quite a few alcoholics, and people who smoked like chimneys. There were also a lot of people who looked older than their years, some due to continual stress about the economy and family pressures, and some, I suspect, due to a shallow gene pool.
