if you are under 18, by law, your mother has the authority to decide things like that for you, because anyone under 18 lacks the mental capacity to make any decision, but your older/wiser mother does certainly know better. this is why people under 18 aren't criminally charged in the same way as adults, and why minors can't enter into any contracts without a co-signer.
