Came here to say this. Though if OP is under 18 and working a job for their own money, I still don't think the parent should control that, unless they're trying to spend *all* their savings on ridiculous shit.
But banning someone from doing something will not teach them anything. They'll just want to go out and figure things out on their own because it's something they could never do, and it would probably make them more likely to make rash decisions because once they go do it, they'll be so excited to finally be using that money that it would be far too easy to go overboard.
My parents tried to control my life and just look how I turned out. ;P
