If it's money your earned in a real, proper job and you're over 18, you should be able to spend it how you like. If those conditions aren't true, then you should let her have her way.
To all the people saying that the OP's mum is trying to teach him/her good spending habits: I think that's a load of crap. You don't learn not to do something by being banned from doing it. If anything, being forcibly prevented from overspending makes you want to spend more. What she should be doing is letting her kid make mistakes and learn from those mistakes; that is how people learn.
Came here to say this. Though if OP is under 18 and working a job for their own money, I still don't think the parent should control that, unless they're trying to spend *all* their savings on ridiculous shit.
But banning someone from doing something will not teach them anything. They'll just want to go out and figure things out on their own because it's something they could never do, and it would probably make them more likely to make rash decisions because once they go do it, they'll be so excited to finally be using that money that it would be far too easy to go overboard.
My parents tried to control my life and just look how I turned out. ;P
Is it normal that my mom doesnt let me spend my money on what I want
