Hold up! Fact check! Sleep deprivation is not what causes obesity, it not healthy, but it does not cause obesity! Obesity is caused by eating to much and not moving enough!
It can contribute to it, but it is not the driving factor like you seem to imply. Sleep deprivation increases stress hormones with can increase appetite via increasing what people call 'stress eating'. It also leaves you with more time in the day awake which can mean more calorie consumption depending on the individuals schedual. But the bottom line is, if I have an overweight client who comes to me and says "I don't want to be obese, what should I do?", I will look at diet and exercise as much higher priorities than sleep for causing such a problem.
Doesnormalmatter: Obesity is caused by eating to much and not moving enough!
Doesnormalmatter: Sleep deprivation increases stress hormones with can increase appetite via increasing what people call 'stress eating'.
Sleep deprivation also can contribute to depression, even more so if someone has already been diagnose with depression which can make finding the motivation to make healthier decisions difficult like exercising or taking the time to cook better meals.
I understand you want to fuss at someone, but this a very weak argument you're starting over my choice of wording for a topic that's mainly about sleep. If you're that hung up about it, I'll add the word, "may," because that's really all that sentence needs.
Is it normal that my girlfriend sleeps for 12+ hours every night?

She's 110lbs and 5'3. She definitely is NOT obese.

Nice! Let her sleep, because sleep deprivation MAY cause obesity and other health problems.
Edit: may

Look it up, it can cause weight gain. Depending on your weight during the period the lack of sleep started, it will add to it.
