Is it normal that my gf drinks the most expensive sparkling water?

My gf only buys the most expensive water (San Pellegrino) in the smallest available bottle size (250 ml) and only drinks half of each bottle because after that "it's not fizzy enough anymore".

This makes her water consumption 20 times (!) more expensive than mine (cheapest water at Lidl, biggest bottle).

Should I bring this up?

If it's her money, she's free to waste it however she chooses.

If she's expecting you to pay for her carbonated water addiction, then what you have on your hands is someone who's a freeloader as well as a willing victim of product branding. If you stick with her and she doesn't grow up, she'll end up costing you a hell of a lot more than she does now.

To paraphrase Maya Angelou: when someone shows you that they're an entitled, spendthrift fool, believe them.

Yeah, that's the thing. It's her money currently, but at some point in a serious relationship, finances just "melt together" anyway and I'm very efficient with spending myself, so having a partner where I know that lots of money are constantly being burnt for no reason would make me feel sick.

You CAN come to an agreement to keep at least some of your funds separate…if she’s the type that knows how to compromise anyway. Everyone is different obviously, but I personally think it seems healthier that way🤷‍♀️

    It's an ego thing....

So here's a question for you... What other ego things does she have.

If this is the only item, just accept it (we all have our quirky preferences and letting your partner have theirs leads to a better relationship).

However, if she also buy's only the best most expensive other things... She has no financial sense or control... and will likely bankrupt you long term.

Someone with good financial sense and control should have (or be building) 2-4 months wages in savings for emergencies that is rarely touched. That's a common starter item for any serious long term financial planning and investing.

I wish you well with this,

See if you can order it by the case. Maybe it’ll be cheaper. Also there is a think called a soda stream. Get one. But don’t fuck with the syrup shit to make actual soda. It’s disgusting. We use filtered water and sometimes even get crazy and make Evian fizzy.

You should bring it up but be warned. If she gives you an argument you’re going to have to decide if it’s something you’d break up over. It’s a give and take and sometimes stuff is just not worth fighting over. I drink Pellegrino, but I don’t waste it. Tell her to tightly cap the partial bottle and put in the fridge and it’ll keep its “fizziness” just fine.

Just tell her to get La Croix, it's cheaper and comes in more flavors. Plus cans usually stay fizzier than bottles do

Just pick the water bottles out of the trash and fill them up with sink water. Tell her you got her some more she dont need to buy it

This would work if it wasn't sparkling water. Sparkling water is the fizzy, carbonated stuff.

If she is spending her own money, it's none of your business. If you are paying for it then you are crazy for doing it.

  • Well if she can afford it then I don't see the problem though I would find it frustrating to see someone randomly toss half a bottle like that. I also drink sparkling water mostly but I don't buy any expensive kind and I don't care for sparkles, often there's too much of them tbh but I prefer the taste of sparkling water. I think many people do.
