Is it normal that my friend will often ask for 2 - 4 dinners?

I've got a friend who is trying to lose weight. He's only a bit overweight, so it's not really a big deal. In a conversation once, he told me he was struggling to lose weight. He said he often skipped breakfast and lunch, then went for a big dinner. Initially, I was confused with him because I didn't know what he meant by "Big dinner" but a while later I realised that he had eaten a giant amount of food (his parents had ordered pizza, and we all ordered what we wanted) and out of 4 pizzas, he ate 2 of them. Another example is that my mum made fried rice (which is usually quite filling) while we watched his brother (he's a toddler) and before I even had a single serving, he'd had 2. Is this normal? I don't think he realises that he's eating a lot of food.

That's called binging, and it's not normal or healthy, either. He may have an eating disorder. Talk to him about it.

  • It's funny, apparently eating this way is a big no no, for weight loss, it actually causes you to gain weight , well thats what dietitians, doctors and the internet say. I ate this way all the way from 14 to 24 and I was a skinny, fit strong mofo.

When your young eating a lot is the way to go to take advantage of your metabolism. I eat significantly more than anyone I know and also am leaner than almost everyone I know. Especially if you have a lot of muscle mass.

the healthy way of eating is by gradually decreasing the amount of food eaten throughout the day (big breakfast, medium lunch and small dinner), and having a small snack each 3 hours

    Hope I helped :D

How could he not know he's eating that much? The act of picking up food and stuffing it in your gob is not something we don't notice.

Not normal maybe but I do it. Most days now I have 8 meals which depending on your time definition could be 2 to 4 dinners.
