Yeah it's normal. I have a really nice kinda weird friend and my other good friend keeps saying she doesn't like her to me when she knows we're close friends. I just tell her to shut up, no one gives a crap and I don't wanna here it. You can still be friends with them just defend the person getting made fun of.
