Is it normal that my dad won't let me drink in my room?

All i want to do is have a couple of beers, but dad wont let me have it in my room, only while watching TV. He says its not sociable. Its fine if i stay in my room all day but as soon as i get a drink from the fridge, he goes off at me! BTW i still try to socialise with my friends as much as possible.

Is It Normal?

  • Since you're under his roof, follow his rules.

    • I wouldn't want to be a drink either.

Someone might pick me up and dump me into his or her stomach... >:-)

    • I was a drink before, for a rich woman. She was hot and all but I had to quit that job, I kept on getting the strongest headaches.

  • Your dad wants to drink a beer with you. Do it!

  • This really isn't much of a chore is it? Your father hasn't said "don't drink", he has simply said "if you want to have a drink, do it in a social setting (I.e. With him watching tv) and not alone in your room like some sad lonely alcoholic".

It's his house you are living in, and while I would be the first to condemn a percent who is repressing or exploiting their child because they are living under their roof, this clearly isn't the case here. House rules, don't drink alcohol in your bedroom.

  • Tell your dad to go fuck himself and punch him in the kidneys

  • You're old enough to drink, you're old enough to move out. Parents don't just say or do things to be assholes, they're trying to put you on the right path. I found I got on ten times better with my folks once I moved out and then you finally understand why they say/do what they do.

  • There's a myth that alcoholism is a solo activity. Whether your father is right or wrong in believing that myth, it sounds like he cares enough and worries enough to try and protect you. Although it may annoy you, it's no bad thing.
