Is it normal that my dad hates republicans this much?

Most Americans aren't fond of Republicans, but my dad's attitude towards them and Libertarians, who he considers to also be Republicans, is downright hostile. Every day he spends time complaining very angrily about how Republicans are ruining the country, even though he rarely has anything specific to mention. I'm not sure he even knows about any specific recent events, or even why he hates them so much. The mere mention of Republicans will get him angry and ranting, no matter how unrelated it is to what was actually being talked about. The other day he heard about some gun rights thing, and he slammed on the table and shouted, "the only use a gun should ever have is for killing Republicans!" He sometimes tells me that if I know any Republicans I should let him know who they are. He also sometimes says he's disappointed with Democrats who aren't committed to destroying Republicans, and that they aren't true Democrats. And on it goes. Is this level of hatred for Republicans and Libertarians normal?
