Calling the kid names is mean. But on the other hand the dad should have let the kid watch what was going on. Just watch, not operate any machine. Plus why didn't a supervisor tell the dad not to let the kid work the machine?
And maybe you and the other guys could have spent a little of your lunch time with him and explained what you all do.
