Is it normal that my cats are always getting at the xmas decorations?

probably a stupid question with an obvious yes, lol but just wondering if anyone else is dealing with the same thing. our 2 cats are always getting at the Christmas tree and at the village around it no matter how many times they get yelled at or squirt a day. which i dont care if they lay under it, but their also taking the ornaments off the tree too and taking apart the snow around the village. today i just decided to leave them alone cuz its not really their fault they have nothing else to play with besides a few cat balls lying around and a scratchig pad. and yeah i'm home alone right now :)
