Is it normal that my brain instantly hurt when i ride rollercoasters?

I'm a healthy 36 year old fit woman. My daughters and I go to theme parks almost every 4 weeks for the past 7 years. In the past 4 months, I have been having a hard time riding the same rides I've always rode. These rides do not have those head rests to bang your head into, either. It simply reactivates sharp head pain from the jerking and it happens as soon as the ride starts. The first time iy happened, I thought I had a concusion. Today, it has been 2 days since the last encounter on the rollercoaster and my head is very numb. I left wrk early to get more sleep, hoping that was it. Its not. I just wke up and its still very numb. This will likely go away again but what is it? Did I get a concusion?

Is It Normal?
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • If I were you I'd visit a doctor just to make sure that it aint anything serious. BUT, you shouldnt worry... alot of people got that problem, my head/brain hurts too whenever I ride a rollercoaster. I think I know why, Maybe because when you're riding it you try to keep your neck straight which is pretty hard, so it puts alot of pressure on the muscles around your neck and that usually leads to a head ache or pain in your brain. But meh, that's just a theory or some idea of mine, I'm not a doctor so you shouldnt judge by that. But yeah, it wont hurt to go to the doctor, so you got nothing to lose and everything to gain. Goodluck!

  • I personally LOVE roller coasters! But you really need to go a doctor. She can do more than just say "stop riding coasters." She can perform scans to make sure there isn't any serious damage or other issues in your brain/head. Or you may do better to seek info on a roller coaster enthusiast related website. You'd probably find more people who have experienced this issue.

I did find one website/article that was interesting.

  • Flax, it's funny because I just turn 50, I have been going to Cedar Point amusement park since I was 6 years old, I usually go 2 times in the summer . I just went last week and for the first time ever, I experienced very sharp pains in my head. At first I thought it was just because the ride was very jerky, but it happened again, after the 3rd roller coaster I stopped. I am not a moron, this is something in over 40 year had never happened before. I was so surprised to find someone had experienced the same problem.
My head hasn't hurt at all since then,so I may be a moron, but I am not going to go pay $100 to see a doctor to tell me not to ride them anymore.
Danman can you give me the site were it say's your brain cells are dying? I tried to find one, but only found sites I was able to find say that is false. You may have read a more reliable article than I found. Thanks
To the person that asked the question, please let me know if you found out what may have caused it.

  • It is normal for some people. What is really happening is that you are feeling your brain cells dying. When you get on a rollercoaster it makes your shake which in makes it hit your head, which in extreme cases is considered a concussion. So what's happening is that you are experiencing a bunch of little concussions. So the best thing to do is to just avoid rollercoasters they are not goood for you.
