It can be normal, but it's not okay. Sounds like there are respect issues. It us not something that will correct itself. So fix it or get out.

Control also depends on YOU and how you react. He can't control you unless you CHOOSE to succumb to his demands.

my bf of a year always controlled me
he puts his hand around my neck in public and pushes me where to go, & tells me not to talk to any guys & won't let me go to public school thinking guys will hit on me (I'm homeschooled) because of this, I'm forced to lie and do things behind his back. He should treat you like a queen! If he says anything that is threatening in any way leave him. You deserve better!

hmm... depends on the context in which he's saying that stuff. I mean if it's like just every so often and just because he wants to tell you something etc. I wouldn't be overtly worried.

BUT if he says it in a nasty tone or constantly tells you what to do, then that's not very respectful towards you.

You don't say if he tries to control you in any other way though like telling you what to wear or who to see/not see, because if he does do those things then you should seriously think about what you want.
