I had the same problems with an ex before. I could never drive the point home. If I brought up the state of the relationship and what she was ruining she would just cry and apologize, making me feel terrible for bringing it up. But the best improvement she ever made lasted a week. After that she would be right back to her old ways.
You should ban him from gaming online and see what happens! >:D

Its one of those ones where they pay for a subscription, so he feels obligated to play it... He was gone all day for his friend's birthday, but he offered to stay with me because I'm sick. I thought that was rather nice of him, usually he doesn't notice.
At least he's got some sort of social life anyway. Some people get so obsessed with these games that it all just goes out the window.
The improvements he's making so far sound nice, but you are definitely right not to make shallow threats. Stay on your tippy-toes with this, and try to offer relationship support where you can. Though that goes without saying really. You don't want him to feel like you're just giving up, though you sound like you are putting plenty of effort into this already.
