You need to explain to him how you feel about the things he says to you. That's verbal abuse, and you should not lower yourself to tolerate that sort of crap. If he enjoys putting you down it's because he's the one who feels worthless and has no other way of feeling better about himself.
If he can't respect you, find someone else. Find someone worth your time that would value you.
