The rule is you can only date someone's ex after the same amount of time they have been together, or you have known them (if they were together when you met them) has passed since they broke up.
If I date a girl for five years my mates have to wait five years for her to be available unless I have only been mates with them for two years then they only have to wait two.
If I wanted to date a mates ex I'd consider this fair.
