I recently left my father's house in a hurry to flee an abusive relationship. Living at a shelter, I can't bring all of my stuff unfortunately so i told my father i couldn't and he suddenly started becoming kind to me, offering me more time, sending me job opportunities and help. He even offered me a one year trip to san fransisco!
I don't understand where that kindness comes from. Is it normal?
It's possible he's suddenly realized how badly he's treated you and determined to do better... but it's also possible it's a trick. Or perhaps even more likely, he means well to some extent but won't be able to keep it up.
My advice continue doing everything you can to give yourself space and remove your dependence on him, but consider allowing him to remain in your life somewhat, provided his new attitude lasts.
