Is it normal that my 12 year old sister weighs 145 pounds?

Okay, so my 12 year old sister, G, is a very nice and funny girl. There's just one problem though: she weighs 142 pounds. I dont know if that's good for her age or bad for her age. I mean, her height is 5'4 the last time my mom measured her. She wants to be in the soccer team for her school. G. is actually very active.

But the weird thing is, is that she is very boney. If G. stretchs with her arms up, you can see her ribs. And, if she leans down, you can see her bone under her neck. I thought that was a little strange for her weight.

So, is this normal for my 12 year old sister to weigh 142 pounds and her height to be 5'4? Please, I need an answer.

  • She probably has way more muscle on her frame then fat. That would explain the weight.

Basically the opposite of what I am.

  • No, that's overweight. She's only 12 though...she just might be building up for a growth spurt.

  • That is called being big-boned, I believe. I'm 5'10 and about 180-something pounds. But I'm overweight, so I don't know what to tell you.

  • She might just have strong bones

  • Oh my God. I'm 5'7, 130 pounds. How is that even possible wouldn't she be fat?

  • Take her to a doctor. The fact that She's overweight and her bones are visible is very strange.

  • If she is healthy and active and eats normally, I wouldn't worry about the scale till high school. Puberty is tricky. Wait till after for abnormalities.

  • I'm not sure...I weighed about 135 when I was her age, but she's taller than me. The only way to know for sure would be to ask a doctor.
