It's human nature to believe what we need to believe about the world we live in, the people we interact with and ourselves. Unfortunately, there's no shortage of narcissists who are capable of truly believing that their self-serving lies are the absolute truth, and there are also plenty of people who are very good at manipulating others into believing the most ridiculous crap because it benefits them in some way.
