It saddens me as well. I wish those people could appreciate their singlehood more. I think the mainstream media have made too much of a habit out of portraying relationships as the ultimate goal. It gives people a ridiculously idealistic view of love, which makes them depressed if they can't find it.
I've spent time being single wishing I had a girlfriend, and I've spent time in my relationships wishing I was single again. I guess both situations have their advantages.
