This is what I see as a problem. There is nothing more unappealing than chameleons that change themselves to be liked. Just stay true to who you are. You'll alienate a lot of people but at the same time you'll attract the ones who like you for being you. For instance, very often I'm not attracted to the smartest, sexiest or funniest person in the room, but the most genuine.
Also, a law of life is the more you chase something, the more it will elude you. And vice versa. Become your own friend, be someone that _you_ like. For no other reason than pleasing your self and conscience. And then you'll see how many people will gravitate towards you. But the irony is by then you might not care for the attention anyway
