I pretty much agree with the first half of your statement. However I don't think we view "God" as the same thing, nor demons for that matter. Only you can establish or remove your relationship with god, the spirits merely guide you-that path is yours to walk alone.
Do not underestimate the power of demons. They are largely responsible for the evil conditions facing humanity today, after our own imperfection and alienation from God.
They're all the same, they just get kicks out of different things. Pretending to be deceased people, pretending to be angels, making sorcery appear to work, etc. I don't know if they can directly influence people's minds or not, but I know they do wield some kind of power over mankind as a whole, and alot more today than ever before.
