It's good that you were aware of your obsession. I had that kind of tendency and I managed to get rid of that.. and I'm happy now! So the rule here:
Love Yourself First!
Easy to say but you have to. Besides, you cannot own anyone, not even a wife or children. That's because they have their own heads to follow, and no matter what you do, you can not control them at all. Try to mind your own business.
I agree with loving yourself first. I would also add that if it was me and the person was mean to me, that would break the obsession right there because I have at least a little self respect.
