I can concede that we may have interpreted the question differently. I am from the US as well and I have heard "hooking up" used both ways - sleeping around and committed relationships having intercourse - granted I am in the south where what is said very rarely has any bearing on what was meant. I will also concede, after a second reading, that the OP did not really make himself clear.
What I meant was that if I'm about to get with a girl, and she has expressed to me that she isn't on birth control, I'd rather not have sex. I realize there are flaws with birth control, but still. Std's are not that common here, I live in a relatively small southern town.
Is it normal that I would rather not have sex than use a condom?
