Is it normal that I worry about being lonely?

  • Although it is "normal" in my book for people to fear being alone, it, like any other fear, can make you neurotic and actually "create" a situation in which you are trying to defend (what you resist persists).

A meaningful relationship is the result of two healthy people coming together for love, not loneliness prevention.

Simply, you've got to aspire to overcome this fear (try doing certain things alone--taking a long walk, catching a movie, even eating in a restaurant (some place like a coffee shop where being alone is not unusual). Just some pointers to learn to simply be at one with yourself.

And I understand the broader level of your conerns, though. I was raised around old folks....scores of them that are all deceased now. They were all I ever knew as a child. Now that they are gone and i'm approaching forty, i often wonder (I have no children) who will tend to me whenever I get old (IF I ever get old!).
