Not strictly. I'm really interested in medieval seafaring, particularly the social aspect of life on board. In a lot of diaries of the time, it was widely known and reported that dodo meat was tough and tasted nasty.

The reason they were hunted to extinction is because of sailors' desperation for fresh meat. Meat doesn't last long on board ship (particularly at those latitudes). Often, livestock were transported on the journey, to be slaughtered periodically. But trips were often underestimated and the supply of livestock inevitably ran out.

I think they're from the pigeon family, so they probably tasted a lot like pigeons.

:P You can't just blame pirates. And no, I wouldn't say they must have been super delicious, they were big and dumb and relatively plentiful. Thats it. No big reason for people to want to eat them, most likely. Just there and easy. But, I kind of hate you for this, now I am curious as to what dodo tasted like.
