I wear a wedding band, partly because it's the only finger it fits on and partly because I think it's hilarious that a thin bit of gold on a specific finger would make any difference to anyone.
If you're finding that the ring puts people you'd like to meet off and you still keep wearing it then no, that's not normal. That's silly.
If you don't care about meeting someone, or you're going to go about it differently then wear what you want to wear.
