Well, most guys (gay, straight, extraterrestrial) I would imagine feel as uncomfortable as I do when I am in the lingerie dept. Heck, I've been wearing panties for a while now (several months, at least a year) and still find it hard to buy them. I've even wanted to go to Victoria's Secret and can't bring myself to walk in.
But really, people will assume you're buying for your girlfriend if you're browsing through lingerie. It's only when you have several pairs in your hand and ask if you can try them on in the changing rooms that you might draw strange looks :P

Anyway, perhaps you're a closet cross-dresser? There are guys who enjoy wearing women's clothing, even if it is just the underwear.
