    I don't think it's wrong for wanting to pursue a proper friendship with a former teacher/ mentor.
    I think it's great that you want to keep in touch with someone that's helped you when you were at your lowest.

    So go for it, I doubt she'd think you crazy or weird for saying hi.
    Since it's been quite some time since you've seen her, you can start by asking her how has she been the last few years. Take it from there?
