Is it normal that i want to punch anyone who insults the disabled?

I have a little 10 year old sister with down syndrome. I am in high school and people are cruel. If I hear someone talking offensively about disabled people or IMITATING them I get the urge to go and punch them in the face HARD. They dont know the first thing about what disabled people are like! They have bigger hearts than all of us! They are so happy in their own little world never thinking bad things of others. Hearing people saying anything different makes me want to cause cause violent harm to them. I am a girl and not the violent type. I am actually a peaceful sensitive person. Is this normal?

  • I also hate it when they talk to them like they are 4 years old - just ignorance and segregation

  • I know how you feel. I become enraged when people are cruel to them. It's so hard to fight the urge to kick their asses!
I wish I could go Bruce Lee on them!

  • You love your sister and the thought of someone hurting her infuriates you...you are nor,al...but realize that people sometimes say things they don't really mean..don't react to every comment...but feel free to tell people how much you love your sister

  • Kids in high school can be such dicks! I think you'll notice that people keep that shit to themselves more as they get older.

My favorite brother-in-law has a brain injury; he's forty on the outside and about seven years old on the inside. He looks like a man, but he doesn't act like a man. It gets him into a lot of hot water sometimes, but I've never seen anyone be intentionally rude to him. I just have to go around telling people we interact with, who give him odd looks for his behavior, that he has a brain-injury. Then they say, "Ahhhhh." because they understand and they go back to their business.
