Is it normal that i want to die a hero

Is it normal that I want to be a hero? I want to change the world or save someone's life and give my life for a cause? The thing i fear most is living a happy life and being average and dying in my sleep at 85 yr old. If I were a guy, I'd join the marines; instead, I want to be a missionary to unstable/dangerous countries. I desperately want to be someone like Achilles from Troy or the two snipers from Black Hawk Down or Maximus from Gladiator. Am I crazy, or is this somewhat normal?

    One question: How old are you?

    If you're young and don't have a family of your own, this is pretty normal.
    However, if you do have people counting on you, then I don't think it's nearly as normal.

    I'm actually in the same boat. I was about to join the Peace Corp a year ago, only to realize I have no qualifications. I wish you didn't need to have a degree to help people. I've been looking into helping areas around where I live, but I'd need a vehicle before I could commit to a 30min-1hr trip to volunteer, unfortunately. Look into volunteering around where you live; hospitals, organic farms, zoos, nursing homes, or even local schools could use the help, I'm sure. There are websites that actually list places in specific areas that are accepting applications for volunteers.

    I guess somebody needs to do the dirty job. I'm about saving my own ass, especially during the extreme situations. If the others tag along, might as well save someone else.

    Heroic tendencies used to irritate me when I was a kid, now I just let other people do whatever crazy shit they wanna do, as long as it doesn't concern me.
