Is it normal that i want to buy a home at my age?

I'm 21 and I'll be 22 in October. I graduated from college this year in June with my Bachelors in Fine Arts (Fashion Design). I'm currently a Freelance Designer and plan to open my own design house really soon. But lately I have been thinking about buying my first home. I believe I'm ready to make the big leap & become a homeowner after all I've been building my own home for years in my head every since I was 17. I want to buy an okay, reasonably priced home and turn it into my castle. Nevertheless, Im not afraid of hard labor and I'll be the one do the painting and repairs after all This Old House is 1 of my favorite shows. By the way I have a friend who buys homes & repairs them and he says he'll help me with whatever so that's a big relief. But I tend to worry about finances a lot I've been looking into 1st time home buyers grants and run into dead ends but hey if I don't find one I'll still be buying a home soon. I just don't want to rush into anything but I believe I'm ready it's been on my heart for some time now and I believe I'm ready for this level of maturity. So hopefully at the beginning of 2013 I'll be blessed to become a homeowner. What do you all think?

  • Anyone on this site (18+) is old enough to get his/her own place, it just depends when YOU'RE ready.

  • Just know that this is going to be one of the biggest investments you will make in your life. Renovating a house costs plenty of money.

  • Wanting and planning your dream home doesn't mean you're ready to own one. You don't want to sink yourself into a money pit, so you don't want to go with a house too inexpensive. Are you able to save up enough for the downpayment if you can't qualify for any loans or grants? How's your credit? Do you make enough monthly to afford mortgage, utilities and taxes?

This kind of information would help us to advise you as to whether or not you're ready for home ownership.
