You are only partially correct. Humans have been relatively small in numbers, throughout our existence. Regardless of what you might read in history books, we normally trade and co-operate with one another. We have one major inherent problem that we repeat, over and over. We have made this mistake everywhere we have settled in large numbers, we destroy the environment around us.
I thought the op was referring to greed, which has always been around.
I agree with your main point though. We need to stop focusing on expanding our our cities and start focusing on controlling our population and recources. The more of us there are, the less there is of the environment we rely on.
I think the OP means to burn the world and start over without humans to destroy it. Or eventually introduce humans like in this world but stick to our values.
