Since about three years ago, I've been overcome with this overwhelming desire to be a pirate. Not the modern ones with metal ships and machine guns. I'm talking about Blackbeard-type pirates. Tricorn hat, cutlass, magnificent wooden ship...there I go again. I know this will never happen, but I need to find some way to get this fantasy out of my head.
I wouldn't want to be a POOR pirate; and most of them were. They had crappy diets, horrible medical care and most of them died ugly deaths at a relatively young age.
Now, if you had your own ship, a couple of buried treasure chests, and steady dibs on the comely lassies you plucked from plundered ships ... well OK then, maybe a decent career. Well, I mean until you got hanged by the government or betrayed by your crew and cleaved by a cutlass.

Okay I'm a bit late here but you know pirates didn't really have the good life you see in movies right?
They had little food, they spent a lot of time on the ocean, the job was dangerous and there was a lot of disease onboard.
But on the other hand...

theres this trance song called "tracking treasure down" and it makes me want to be a SPACE PIRATE! a fusion of old pirate ship look with technology. anyways, listen to the song, its pretty good.
South Park had a great episode about the very subject. Cartman hears about the pirates in Somali and thinking they're the black beard type, goes to Somali(with some other kids to become one). Great episode.
I have an idea. Take out a loan, buy a wooden ship (much like the type a pirate would have sailed on) and hire a few sailors/actors to crew it. Set sail for a big tourist city and take folks out for historical/dinner cruises or something fun like that.
That, or just play Sid Meier's Pirates.
I'm from Australia and was watching a cake show tonight on fox called 'Ace of cakes' and they made a pirateship cake for a bunch of pirates who reenact. They dress, act and talk like them and they have pirate boats and they are the old school pirates u described. The show is set in Baltimore USA I think( may b wrong though) so if u live anywhere near there maybe u can look into it and join them although I'm sure they arnt the only ones who do it, there may be more near u someone. I had the exact same urge one time, especially where I live on a hilly area over a few trees out in the view is the sea one side rough one side calm, your ancestors were probably pirates lol, or you are very adventurous are not getting enough adventure.
