Merc pay is shit by western standards. Pretty much there are two groups. Freedom fighters who get paid to be an extra gun but that pay depends entirely on what shithole country/group is hiring you. Or more rarely are the honest to god mercenary companies that take ex soldiers to be expendable political tools for doing jobs the goverment wants you to do and will disavow your existance if discovered or killed. Good money I hear but stick to maritime merchant protection rather than an open ground war.
Examples for the former are pretty much every african warlord/coup group and any group that was against isis when that was a thing.
Examples for the latter are the big names, Blackwater's the wagner group*, american PMCs, european PMCs whatever group the CIA uses.
*seeing how they are using prisoners in a suicide squad-esk fashion they really dip into the crappy merc company more than anything.
