Is it normal that i want to be a good father?

I don't have kids yet and I'm not really planning to at this point but if I do be it planned or unplanned I want to be a good father.

Why I ask is it normal is because I look at my community and I see that there is a lack of decent father figures.

It's clearly not every person in it my father was in my life and I know plenty of others who were just as lucky but the lack of fathers is a majority issue.

It's clearly not normal but it's sadly the norm so am I the crazy one for wanting to be there for my children if or when I decided to have them.

    Normal.

    My father was a piece of shit. I've known a few who were.

    However, I've known far, far more who were/are great dads and do everything in their ability to not only provide for their children, but be present in their lives.

    I know broken homes are a thing, but I don't think they are the majority. Perhaps more prevalent in some places.

      Well, I do not believe your father is to blame.
      He might have been a good father if he had not had you for a kid.
      Whatever he did that made him a bad father, it was most likely your fault.

    In many ways my father is like my best friend.

    I think it's normal to want to be a good parent even if it's not the norm where you come from, OP. You are normal, deadbeat dads are not normal, but rather they are pieces of shit!
