People who have a strained relationship with their parents/family often have dependency issues in their later years. Adding the fact that your current housing includes a roommate that relentlessly picks on you will certainly add a negative weight to your mental health. It's good you've got a positive relationship with your teacher as well as having friends! It's important to keep in mind though that teachers are restricted from getting too friendly with their students. You don't have to distance yourself from them but I would caution you that they could risk losing their job. It's a fine line. Asking them to adopt you on top of that could potentially strain your relationship between you and your teacher. I'd suggest keeping things on a friendly, almost neighbour-like basis. Asking them to go with you for support when speaking to a Counselor is certainly doable though!
