You do realize that a mental illness classifies as such only if it does harm or negatively affect the one suffering from it or other people. Since this is not a case for homosexuality and possibly for many other "mental illnesses", they wouldn't be considered as such scientifically speaking.
Terms aren't objective scientific definitions, they're subjective social constructs that refer to the most dominant understanding of a state of being in a given environment. For me and for those I socialise with, being homosexual is considered a mental illness. You shouldn't act like definitions are represented by your(plural) interpretation.

They took it off the APAs DSM list in 1973. I too say it's a mental illness and believe the Pentagon maintains such.
