I know it's not really the same thing, but my ex-boyfriend had depression and his constant refusal to even try to crawl out of his world of self-hatred was incredibly frustrating and ended with him pushing everyone away. I thought along the same lines as you, that I would be able to help him out of it, but if they don't even want to help them-self there's no point. So I see where you're coming from, that you want a relationship someone of a nature similar to you, but I voted not normal as I personally think dating some-body with depression is more pain than it's worth.
