  • It sounds like you've got it pretty severe--but, generally, feeling confused about where, who, or even what you are is pretty normal, very early in the morning--I think so, at least. Many people just feel odd, or out of place, or unsure of the layout of their house... Or suddenly their relations to friends and family strike them as very weird, strange, foreign, or even inauthentic. This is just my hypothesis, but: it may be due to fluctuating neurotransmitter (e.g. serotonin) levels, during the sleep cycle--I think I read they do surge and sink during sleep... so, wake up too quickly, and you might forget where you are, etc. But it fades in the course of the morning, right? EVER READ FRANZ KAFKA'S "METAMORPHOSIS"? I really believe the idea for that, waking up to find oneself transformed into a hideous bug, is inspired by this very odd-feeling phenomenon you're talking about.
