I believe that most teachers view and treat their students very similarly as they would their own kids. We have all had those teachers that bent over backwards to help students be successful, listened to them, offered sound advice, and acted as a positive role model.
Like you, I also have regarded some of my teachers as parental-type figures. Except for my high school French teacher... She was way too cute. Regarding her as any sort of family member would have ruined a young boy's dreams.
