haha I saw two older women the other day who hailed a cab from the other side of the road, which pulled up next to me. As they were running across the road I opened the doors for them to get in. They were immediately like "OH, ARE YOU GOING TO TAKE THIS CAB?!? WE HAILED IT!"
I explained I was only opening the door for them and their demeanour changed to surprise. They climbed in and were clearly flattered. I think they still appreciate it, maybe even more, cos it's not as common.
