K-pop is not the first fan base to suffer from this, back in the 2000’s when “emo” was in its heyday 11-16 year old girls were lusting after 25+ year-old band members. This even happened with the Beatles back in the 60s, they were all over 20 as their teen fans fawned over them. Put a bunch of young, good looking, slightly effeminate men in a group together and schoolgirls (and some schoolboys) will swoon.
I don’t understand your last point though, are you suggesting these 12 year-olds date Joe Biden?
Also, how come you only see girls doing this kind of stuff? I mean, I've never heard of the opposite, a girl band being able to make 12 year old boys around the world obsess over them in the same way?
Teenage girls go through a phase where they need to bond with something, so they form parasocial relationships with celebrities and boy bands are prime material for that. I watched my younger sisters and cousin go through it, starting at age 12 and not really fading until they were 18. Mercifully they were never under the illusion that they would one day be romantically involved with the objects of their obsessions.
Unfortunately I can’t tell you why teenage boys normally don’t experience it.
That’s why I said they only normally skip this stage, I’ve observed more effeminate teenage boys becoming crazed over celebrities.
When I was in an airport last year the guy in-front of me was causing drama because he was trying to take 5 items of hand luggage onto the plane, he was wearing a Spice Girls t-shirt. I guess some of those 90s boys never really grew up.
I remember watching Mtv in the 80's with sluts in music videos and usually the male discussions were along the lines of -
"Yeah, I would like to take her out for a nice dinner and movie, end the evening with a kiss, tell her how beautiful she is, and hopefully form a long term loving relationship."
No for real, usually just the F word got used a lot.
Lately I occasionally go to the 'Hot 100' section of the Billboard Charts and scan through the list while sampling the songs and I can't help but wonder why most of those songs are on that list. I mean, have music listeners gradually become more retarded in recent years?
I've thought the same, but then I think that's what older people have said about the music young people like ever since... well, probably since Mozart or even before that.
Still, I recently came across a YouTube channel where a couple of guys in their twenties - who apparently grew up listening to nothing but rap or hip-hop - film their reactions as they listen for the first time to music suggested by their subscribers, most of which is from the sixties up to the turn of the millennium. That kinda makes me think that the music I liked from that period wasn't all crap. Their reaction to In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins was particularly amusing.
What I found somewhat disconcerting is that these two black guys seem to have no understanding of how rock and roll's roots were in R&B, the blues, jazz, boogie-woogie and gospel. It was also disconcerting when the main reviewer watched a black-and-white film of the Rat Pack performing and correctly identified Sinatra and Martin, but referred to Sammy Davis Jr as "that Indian guy".

I'd bring them back to reality by telling them that these women were rich and wouldn't want a little boy who can't even afford anything. I was an asshole. Lol

You'd then have a get-to-know-each-moment where you'd definitely give her your personal info that she'd use to address her letter to you back at her school.. that is if she was interested, which was often the case. In signing off the message in the letter the norm was to dedicate a few songs to your 'Number Mate', two to four songs usually. Boy bands like Backstreet Boys, Westlife, Nsync, and Boyzone always dominated.

There were a few slut bands in the 80's that drew a lot of adolescent male attention. Samantha Fox, Lita Ford, the band Vixen...
Maybe today it is Nicki Manage or whatever and other hoochie mama singers that suck but since they are hot, I imagine they sell.
Their music is always complete crap but never in history has there been a shortage of using sexy women in music to part young males from their money.
