Is it normal that i think fried chicken is overrated?

Personally it is overrated because they all taste the same, the same flavor. That's why I think its overrated.

I'm not commenting in the context of your post, roasted chicken is in a lot of ways far better than fried chicken.

It doesn’t all taste the same - there’s a lot you can do with the batter and seasoning.

Are you really on here talking about how chicken tastes like chicken? Slap some sauce on it then damn!

You've just never had really good fried chicken.

The chains use a standardized recipe that was designed to be on best the most average popular.

Even most private restaurants buy a commercial fried chicken recipe mix.

You need to find someplace where they have their totally unique recipe and spices... and don't cook it in the cheapest oil. That stuff is usually stunningly good even if I don't specifically like the spice direction - I still know that I'm eating really good fried chicken.

I wish you well with finding some of this...

I never eat fried chicken for the same reason I don't eat ribs or fish: I can't stand gnawing meat off bones. Not really sure why this is. Maybe I choked on a bone when I was little.

One time while I was in the USN, we had surf 'n' turf for lunch. I accidentally almost swallowed a piece of lobster shell and came damm close to projectile-puking on the guy sitting opposite me.

Understandable why you avoid both ribs and fish.

I first came to live in Thailand 36 years ago, the media in the UK were telling us that the reason that eggs and chicken didn't taste like it used to was that we were getting old. The chicken we got was tasteless apart from the seasoned coating. Well I had eggs and chicken in Thailand and guess what, they tasted like eggs and chicken and still do. It's our farming methods and processing that takes all the flavour out.

I think good fried chicken that is set apart from the rest exists, but is hard to find. You're right, a lot of it does taste the same and is under-seasoned.

The grocery store I worked for as a teen sold fried chicken that was very popular in our small town, but I always thought it was way too bland.

KFC *used* to be good (or maybe my taste buds just changed, since I used to like crap food as a kid), but isn't anymore.

There's a place local to my former town that sells delicious, very well seasoned fried chicken, though. Also, homemade donuts!

Honestly though, besides the aforementioned place, homemade and pan fried is the best, with adequate seasoning, of course!
