Is it normal that I think Charles Manson should die?

  • He's clearly mentally ill, and the 'system' failed both him and us numerous times. Have you ever read about his life before his most famous crimes? I suggest you do. He should be in a mental hospital. I wouldn't let him out because of his cult status, he could easily create a repeat, but I wouldn't kill him because his situation is so complex and there's serious indications he has mental illness.

I'll tell you what, let ALL non-violent drug offenders out and I'd more than gladly pay for any person who has been convicted of any violent crime to stay in prison. It makes me MORE sick to know that we can't keep people who have done physical harm to another person behind bars because we have to many people in there for selling or possessing drugs. FUCKING SICK. It would be a complete non-issue if we weren't locking non-violent drug offenders up.

    • I don't understand why we lock up drug offenders at all. If they rob people to pay for drugs, then lock them up for robbery. If they take drugs but do no harm to anyone, what is the law interfering for?

    • ^This.

I studied him pretty extensively in my Criminal Psychology class. I have a feeling that had the system not failed him as badly as it did and labeled him as a mentally retarded, delinquent son of a single-mother at such a young, impressionable age, there could have been hope, or at the very least, he would have stuck to petty crimes.

A lot of people that are unfamiliar with Criminal Psychology just don't understand that most people are NORMAL and most NORMAL people couldn't kill another human being without even the slightest bit of guilt at the very least. People who kill others in our society are mentally disturbed in some way shape or form. Period. This man is mentally disturbed. He probably doesn't even feel that what he did was wrong and honestly, he'll be dead soon anyway. He's still useful as a case study, so long as he is locked up he will continue to be just a well-paid case-study for students like me.

        Precisely.

    • I agree with you somewhat. I find it incredible that there are persons who are in federal prisons, serving lengthy sentences, for minor posession of marijuana. They received these sentences only because of the jurisdiction that they were caught. If they were in another jurisdiction, they would have received perhaps a small misdemeanor fine.
I have no remorse for people who push dangerous, addictive drugs, such as methamphetamine, cocaine, crack-cocaine and heroin. These are responsible for destroying millions of lives, causing thousands and thousands of murders and other violent crimes and causing millions of families grief. Why is it that this 'system' has so much trouble finding the drug kingpins responsible for this? Clearly our focus should be on these drug kingpins and not on small-time dealers, who get caught up in this 'system'.

      • No, no , no...you cannot blame the drug seller, you can only blame the customer. Prohibition does NOT work. I hate that my money is spent on a useless and expensive war on drugs. Let people make their own choice.

By being illegal, drugs are exponentially expensive, lining the pockets of violent criminals, and also very unsafe for the user. Not to mention innocent bystanders who get in the way of violent underground drug trade....bring it into the light and save lives.

        • Other countries have been calling the U.S. out left and right in the past few weeks. The War on Drugs is a failure. Not only is it clogging our prisons with victimless criminals, its creating the drug wars and the violence in mexico and other countries, contributing to countless deaths and turning people into criminals.

Id have more to say but I'm tired as fuck and unable to arrange my thoughts any more coherently right now.
